Sometimes, you just cannot tell what will catch the eye of a thief. It is sad to think that you need to keep everything locked away, but that seems to be the case these days. "On a Tuesday afternoon, the suspect that you'll see in the photos took it upon himself to back into the driveway of a residence in the East Brainerd area," Chattanooga Police Sgt. Victor Miller began. Spoiler alert: It was not the suspect's house.
You may wonder what this guy was after. A rick of firewood? A pallet of cash? A prized pet? No. It was a mower of the pushing variety. It seems even his car could not believe it as it put up a bit of a fight when he tried to shove it into his trunk. Just for kicks, he swiped a package from the stoop on his way out. "Some things that stand out to me," Sgt. Miller continued, "It appears to be a silver Nissan Sentra, and looks like he had hubcaps but took those off."
The video and pictures come from a surveillance camera of which he was apparently unaware. "The suspect appears to be a white male, approximately 6 foot tall. He is balding and has facial hair," said Miller. "Take a look at the back of his shirt. I can't tell what it is, but maybe you know exactly where his shirt is from. Maybe that'll be a clue. Maybe it's where he works or something of that nature."
The suspect up-close.
The suspect's car.
Miller added it appears there are a number of packages in his back seat, so this may be this guy's regular job. Chances are he is not running a lawn care business. In the real world, this is theft. It will eventually land him in jail, and it could also get you paid. Take a good look.
Match the man with the clothes with the car. And if packages have come up missing at your place, check your security video. Any bit of information could help. "If you know who the suspect is, where he works, or where he hangs out, call in and provide that information," Miller explained. "We hope that we can identify him and stop him from doing this in the future."
