Pictures of the suspect and his vehicle come from Best Buy after he made his purchase with the stolen account. "What's weird about this one is, he didn't actually have the credit card with him," said Chattanooga Police Sgt. Victor Miller. "The credit card was with the victim, who was not even in town at the time."
Detectives are not sure, at this point, how he came into possession of the important information. "Once we find out who the suspect is, we have confidence in our community that they will be able to identify him with these photos. We'll find out exactly how he obtained this," said Sgt. Miller.
In the meantime, there are some suggestions on how to try to keep your account numbers private. "Protect your information," Miller said. "Don't give out information online. Emails, you know? Sometimes you'll get an email that's pretending to be your bank or whatever. You go to websites. Make sure those are all secure. Whenever you're getting mail, make sure there are no account numbers on those. Sign up for paperless billing. All those different kinds of things can help."
As for our suspect, the picture is pretty clear. "Appears to be a black. He appears to be in his 20s," Sgt. Miller said. "Take a good look at him. These are very good photos, and also, the vehicle that he's in, he came and left in a white, newer model Honda SUV."
This case could be a chance to get your out-of-town family and friends involved and maybe share the reward because he might not be a local. "He may or may not be from our area," Miller added. "So, if you have friends or family members that are outside of our area, share this news story with them. Maybe they'll be able to identify who he is."
If you recognize this week's suspect, you could be one call away from up to $1,000 reward cash. Call Crime Stoppers: 698-3333 and reference incident number 24-060482.
That line is always manned, and we will never ask you for your name.
